What's a Cleansing Balm? Should I Be Using It?
Unlike water-based cleansers, cleansing balms are oil-based. They are solid in form, but when applied to the skin, they melt like butter and break down excess oil, dirt, sweat, sunscreen, makeup, and YES, even waterproof makeup---well, at least our Orange Melt Cleansing Balm does.
If you're wondering whether you should use a cleansing balm, the answer is YES!
Cleansing balms are the perfect go-to for doubling cleansing, which is the process of cleansing twice with two different formulas, one oil-based and the other water-based. They are great for breaking down and removing oil-based formulas like makeup (e.g., waterproof mascara) and sunscreen that are only soluble in oil and can't wash off with water.
Cleansing twice ensures you clean your skin as thoroughly as possible, leaving no trace of makeup or sunscreen behind, and avoid pore-clogging residue that could potentially lead to breakouts.
Using a cleansing balm is a better alternative to makeup-removing wipes. Not only are wipes not effective at removing makeup, but they are harmful to your skin as they contain many harsh ingredients, including fragrances, plastics, alcohol, etc., that irritate and dry your skin.
You can even replace your water-based cleanser with a cleansing balm. However, if you're experiencing acne or have combination to oily skin, keeping a water-based cleanser that targets acne and oiliness in your routine may be better. You should double cleanse any time you want to remove makeup or give your skin some extra moisture, usually at night before bed. Use our Orange Melt Cleansing Balm as the first step in your routine, and proceed with your daily water-based cleanser. Double cleansing is very gentle and can be done every day.
